Good Morning! Happy Tuesday. It's the 23rd of January, and the month is rapidly running out. Soon it will be February. Bright sunny morning. Not too cool out, but still damp and kind of wintery, even if warm. |
Dodged the Freezing Rain Bullet Yesterday. The freezing rain that was predicted for yesterday, turned out to be more of a rainy drissel then anything else. Kind of wet and nasty, but not that bad for the commute in, and no danger of loosing poewr unless a drunk hits a telephone pole. |
So It Was a Pretty Busy Weekend.I had to bring home some work from work to work on during the weekend, among other projects, I was working on.some maps for a local political campaign, among many other projects. |
The Save the Pine Bush Hike. There was the Save the Pine Bush hike I co-lead with John Wolcott, then we check out and photograph a few sites that are endangered of development in the Pine Barriens. I also spend some time studying the exhibits in the Discovery Center, searching for maps to receive using the Freedom of Information Act. Currently readying another FOIL request on some more mapping data I really would like to have. |
Then Save the Pine Bush GIS Class. It seemed to go pretty good. We kind of ran out of time, but people where really impressed on the mapping stuff you can do with computers. Using computers to do mapping rather then paper mapping is a lot like the difference between doing math on paper versus using Excel to do maps. It's a big difference as computers really make everything easier and cheaper then doing it on paper. |

Sunday Didn't Get Out and Do Much. This weekend was pretty much a weekend without adventure. Went out to the parents house, did more maps, and continued working on the research project I was doing for work, down at the library, but so as far as doing some kind of adventure, not really. Part of the thing was the sun still sets pretty early, and I figured save some gas, and put off the next trip up to Partridge Run for next week, or maybe 2-3 weeks when I get Big Red back from the body shop. |
At Any Rate, Big Red Getting Fixed. The insurance paid or will pay the claim. I have the body shop scheduled, and will be dropping the truck off on January 30th, and they'll have her until she's fixed in mid-Febuary. Hopefully by then there will be some nice weekends I keep putting away $415 biweekly into my High Interest Savings Account, so I will have the money in the spring to get a truck cap and racks for the kayak. I might put some of it in stocks, except over this short term, the risk is too great, not to mention the online brokerage fees and taxes would cut into any earnings over that short time of period. |

Went to Capital Region Energy Forum Last Night. It was a fairly interesting speaker from the NY State Battery Energy Storage Technology (BEST) Coalition, a group started up by monies from the late 1990s clean air settlement with polluters, but now operating almost entirely with private dollars to promote the development of energy storage for grid applications and heavy duty vehicles. A similiar coalition operated by NYSERDA , helped develop both modern natural gas extraction techniques and the hybrid battery technology used on some transit buses and heavy trucks today. |
