East Branch Sacandaga River

Evening camping along the East Branch at Campsite 5 after the dusting of snow had melted away. It was sunny but at cold afternoon.

Friday night, when I got up there I really wanted to have a big fire. And indeed I did, between the scrap wood pile that was at the campsite and the big bag of burnables I brought from home.

Piles of broken roadway sit after the rebuilding of NY 8 along the East Branch, where a brief but severe rain storm hit the Adirondacks in late October 2019.

While the automobile is long gone from this routing of Route 8, this wild turkey was strutting his way down the road. Didn't get a real good look at the turkey to see if it had a beard to determine if it was a tom or hen.

I had never been down in the gorge below Auger Falls, well at least from the East Side (bushwhack from Forks Mountain Trail). 

I had walked along the Scanadaga River from the west side up Old Route 8A (now a snowmobile trail) but never hiked down from the east side all the way from the gorge. While the views are better from the west side, but from the east side (via Griffin) you almost never run into up there.

I bet this location along the remains of the old Fox Lair camp is an excellent swimming hole, assuming there is enough water in the East Branch which often gets very dried up come hot and dry summer days.
